Sketch portrait of Aftyn‘s Air Spirit from the Elemental friends video. The Air Spirit is my favorite of the characters from that video. She blows on the microphone and that… does something to my scalp. I think I’ll do all four characters in this style, each with this monochrome color scheme.
I’m really happy with the quality of this sketch. Light line hatching in a variety of orientations works pretty well for me. Broad area coverage (the vertical lines) are still hard for me, and still needs work. There’s some charcoal here for fills, and that looks solid.
The outline probably looks like most of my other cartoon-style portraits, but has been constructed in the freehand layered sketch style I’ve been developing this week. And I think that looks great. This picture finally convinces me I’m improving at that.
