I had this dumb idea about this one that didn’t really pan out, where she’d be dialed down to 50% opacity so you could see the environment through her. And then I didn’t put anything of interest in the background to make such silliness worthwhile.
I started off thinking about trying to keep the sketch layer on in the final, painting in details on a “multiply” layer above. Then I ended up hating my sketch and abandoning the idea. Unfortunately, I didn’t make a cleaner sketch for color guides, and that lousy, fuzzy sketch wound up haunting me throughout much of the work.
All in all, though, I think it turned out all right. You get some of the satin texture of her gloves coming through. Lace reads like lace. I struggled with facial proportions some, but the final result is solid.
