Sketch portrait of Aftyn Rose. Not so much a specific moment as just an attempt to represent her in sketch form with contour ink shading. I like how the shapes worked out. The shading style is still experimental, but I am starting to feel more in control of it.
This is not at all similar to my original intentions with this week’s work. I tried to do an original composition with multiple full body figures, mostly invented just from some inspirational references. It was a disaster. There was this one small part, this face, that looked pretty good. To salvage something out of it, I zoomed in on that face, cleaned it up a bunch, then did some experiments with contour guides and shading. I built over those several times with more detail each time until I came to this version.
I think it’s probably of interest to show those construction layers.
