Study group – shoulders 1

This month the Love Life Drawing study group begins examining the anatomy of the shoulder, kicking off with some simple diagrams. We did a little live session where Kenzo went over these features. This is simplified to just the things that you will generally be able to see from the outside, and therefore can be used to help you understand what features you are seeing. The ones that jump out the most are the acromion bone (just above the humerus), which tends to either stick out a bit or make a little pocket in the deltoid, the outside border of the scapula, and the teres major muscle that connects the scapula to the upper arm. These are features that can generally be seen even on an ordinary person, not just weight lifters.

My diagram is really just a copy of the one Kenzo provided us. Sometimes just making the marks helps you fix it in your brain. I really like the 3/4 view he did, which mine falls short of, but I’ll keep working at that. I need practice with rib cage volumes in general, and that view was good for helping me understand the actual shapes involved.
