Painting of Erica Slaughter, lead character from the great horror comic Something Is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera. Dell’Edera has a rough, scratchy style that isn’t my usual jam, but combined with his design sense, it’s wonderful. He draws these evocative characters (look at those eyes!) in all kinds of dynamic poses. There’s such a sense of motion to his work!
This is an original composition. That’s a momentous thing for me as an artist. The first one I didn’t hate and delete. I took a picture of myself holding a knife and then modeled Erica in that pose. There are parts I’m not thrilled about, but overall it’s solid. I’m not up to original characters yet, but this effort is paying off.
