A long time ago, I was an avid importer of DVDs from other world regions. Some of my favorite imports were South Korean movies. They spun a series of huge hits: Shiri, Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Save the Green Planet. Discovering those first hand required churning through piles of less successful flicks. My Wife is a Gangster is a series of action comedies, successful enough in their native country to merit 3 entries. I don’t remember much about the movies, except that badass-looking, scissor-wielding Shin Eun-kyung wasn’t as effective in a fight as I wanted her to be.
The cover of the second movie is great, though! Check this thing out:
I wanted to try my hand at painting this inspiration. Each time I do one of these, I get a little better at it. Getting the sketch down was a challenge again. I almost gave up and traced it, but redoubled my efforts there. It still wound up pretty distorted, but I think I took care of the worst problems with the Liquify tool. I blended much less than I usually do – there’s no mistaking the brush strokes in this one! But I’m starting to like that look. I didn’t want to paint a dozen dudes around her, but I didn’t come up with a good replacement. My “environment” handling on this one is a let down.
