Linne Woods

Painting of mists rising above the prairie grasses at the edge of the woods

This is my first landscape painting, done in Procreate on the iPad. If it weren’t for the fact it’s all digital, I’d call it “mixed media”. I used a lot of different kinds of brushes making this. My usual techniques weren’t working out for the more amorphous and textured look I needed.

The reference for it is a picture I took myself, one lucky evening out walking my dog. Linne Woods is an extension of a very large forest preserve in northern Illinois. The sunset was gorgeous, and these mists rising above the prairie field just looked magic.

I don’t think I’ll do a lot of landscape shots, but I’m glad this one turned out as good as it did.
