Succulent

Portrait of Reddit user succulentslut96, painted in Procreate on iPad. I started to think I wanted to try painting someone with curly hair and this lady really jumped out at me. Look at her eyes! Or eye, at any rate. Incredible!

I took a few runs at her hair, unsatisfied with the results each time. This version looks busier than I’d like, but at least gives a sense of the shape of the curls. There’s some kind of magic to painting either simplified and/or realistic hair that makes it believable. I haven’t unlocked it, but it’s pushing up against the boundaries like that that will get me there.

Anyway, she was a pleasure to paint and I learned some valuable lessons along the way.
