Monochrome drawing of Aftyn Rose showing off for her bathroom mirror before a shower. This is a return to an earlier piece I never thought was quite good enough. Because I have been using Aftyn drawings as a way to exercise my anatomical knowledge, I have also opted to remove her shirt. (And, you know, I appreciate her sexy body!)
To me, this gets pretty close to expressing what I want to in my drawings about Aftyn where that previous attempt did not. She is a beautiful, fun, flirty, and sexy lady, and I am blessed to have her support. I have better understandings of every element than I did two years ago, and I think comparing the two pictures demonstrates that. I’m not going to hide that earlier piece, but I will drop it out of my Aftyn gallery. This is simply a better representation than my first go.
Edit: I keep updating this piece as fixes I need to make strike me. You probably wouldn’t be very interested in the minutiae of what I keep changing — it’s all over the place. But tonight’s modification could teach you something about how my brain works. A couple days ago I woke up in the middle of the night and my brain started mentally reviewing my work. A single word leapt into my brain: “moles”. I had neglected to include any moles in the picture. Aftyn has a little constellation of them that help me understand the orientation on her body, and I love including them. A lot of the coverage here is from my imagination; I had simply failed to consider them.
However, that’s where things get tricky. These things are not symmetric. Tracking her moles is how I figure out whether I’m looking at her left or ride side, irrespective of whether the image has been flipped by a mirror or the camera. I believe the original reference photo was shot in a mirror and is flipped, so we’re seeing her right side turned toward us. (Aftyn is right-handed, so it’s unlikely she was holding that phone with her left.) But that’s not what your brain says when you look at the picture. A person standing in front of you that way would be presenting their left side. Should I therefore use the moles from her left or right? Ultimately I decided her left side should be facing us, because it looks natural and because I then get to include her wonderful booty mole.
