I went looking through Aftyn’s videos for moments that would work well in a vertical orientation to make a phone backdrop. This is from the one titled Ear massage and eye contact. I really like the way the lighting turned out here. This was the first time I did a spotting pass near the end to try to get the subsurface scattering effect. It doesn’t work zoomed all the way in like this, but on a phone screen it looks good.
My paint blending technique failed me on her nose, here. I tried so many times and just kept making big, muddy messes. Eventually I had to zoom way in on the reference and try to paint in the patches much more precisely than I was used to, followed by minimal blending. It’s probably how I should have been proceeding from the start, but we’ll see. I haven’t gone back to that yet, despite the fact that Procreate is unfriendly to the way I was blending in Krita. We’ll see.
