With all these value studies I’ve been doing lately, I got to wondering if there were any good Aftyn references I could use to study shadow and form. In her videos she usually employs a number of fill lights, so you don’t get much shadowing. But a friend pointed me to one of her Snapchat pictures, a flirty shower pose that has some fun shapes.
It was a delicate balance, getting the likeness with such broad line work. Also, in my initial sketch, I distorted her hand substantially, which required correction. In the photo, she’s pursing her lips a bit, like winding up for a kiss, that I wasn’t able to get across. I took a spin at softening and blending out the shadow volumes, but decided the piece looked better in this more abstract form.
