Aftyn figure studies 5
Doing figure studies, as is my current concentration, always make me think about drawing my favorite figure. In amongst all the pages of quick gestures, I applied the techniques I am developing to another round of sexed-up drawings of the beautiful Aftyn Rose. My most detailed set of studies so far.
Some notes on this set:
- I started with six gestures, but eventually removed one of them when it wasn’t coming together
- While the first drawing of a day is usually the roughest, the Fall clothes haul one of her vamping on the back of her car was the first in this set and I think it’s the best of the bunch!
- The Playful succubus was the hardest to get feeling right. I worked at her face so much I wound up having to start over to avoid the “overworked” look
- This set is numbered five, so what happened to number four? That was part of my Kimodameshi work and is still waiting for me to refine it like this set (Edit: here it is!)
- With the exception of the “flamingo” pose, I have taken liberties with each of the references here to amplify the sexiness. I really enjoy exercising that part of my imagination
- I’ve said it before, but I think this set merits repeating it. I have direct permission from Aftyn to depict her like this. She has never been short of happy and proud of her influence on me and my art journey
Something I started thinking about while doing these: Aftyn is the queen of the tease, of giving you just a taste of what she knows you want and leaving you panting for more. When I do these portraits that are so much more explicit than her work, am I doing her a disservice? It’s worth thinking about.
I don’t think so for two reasons. One, when I watch one of her videos where she’s on a teasing rampage, she knows this is where my mind goes. She knows and loves the effect she has on the viewer. Two, I believe she enjoys seeing these sexy mirrors held to her as much as the rest of us do.
Teasing is her art. Appreciating her beauty is mine. That said, I am not going to let go of this idea. I need to think about ways to capture that aspect of her work in my own.
