The concluding exercise to the Love Life Drawing study group’s hands month. We’ve established the anatomical essence pretty well already. Now the goal is to use light and shadow to call out the subtler anatomical features — fat, tendons, wrinkles, and so on. You can see that my confidence in rendering the hands has improved quite a bit over the course of the month. In this set, I tried out using a highlight color to push bright areas forward from the base value. It makes for some striking effects. As always, more practice needed!
Keeping an eye on the gesture drawing target, Kenzo also asked us to do a 10-minute-ish gesture drawing for a figure with simplified but anatomy-aware hands. This is Jade, someone I drew a bunch of times as a stick figure, but have struggled with representing in gesture form. This is probably my best pass on her.
